Dapper Day – When the fashionable visit the Disney parks!

Definition: dap·per
Adjective: A: neat and trim in appearance B: very spruce and stylish

The original Disneyland designers frequently populated their renderings with guests who appeared dressed for a day of sophisticated entertainment, men in sharp suits, toddlers working two-pieces, and ladies looking like a page from Dior’s sketchbook – all as if a visit to Disneyland were on par with a night at the opera. And why shouldn’t it be? That’s what Dapper Day is about, realizing those designer’s dreams that Disneyland be experienced as the upscale escape that it is, filled with fashionable guests ready for fun.

Interpret this however you like. A period “Mad Men” look is as correct as the latest haute couture.

Dapper Day is not a private ticketed event. (You will need a park ticket or annual pass as usual.) There’s two events every year, a spring all-day happening in February – celebrated at all Magic Kingdom parks worldwide, and a fall, evening event (currently planned just for the Disneyland resort).

“With more than 30,000 people expected to attend, Gay Days Anaheim wrapped its fourteenth year today.

The event was already boasting its fair share of celebrity clout with appearances by legendary performer Carol Channing, screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, comedian Bruce Vilanch, and Glee star Dot-Marie Jones, Raja but another actress from the hit Fox television show is now scheduled to make an appearance at Gay Days Anaheim tomorrow.

Actress and Emmy winner/host Jane Lynch appeared at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel on Saturday afternoon for a book-signing event for Happy Accidents, a memoir Lynch published earlier this month.

Gay Days Anaheim Sunday, Oct. 2nd Carol Channing

The 2011 Gay Days at Disneyland are set to take place Friday, September 30 to Sunday, October 2. For its 14th year, the event is expected to attract more than 30,000 LGBT park-hoppers from California and all over the country.

Newly added to the schedule is An Intimate Conversation With Carol Channing, in which the 90 year-old legend will talk about her life, career and new CD with Eddie Shapiro, co-author of Queens in the Kingdom: The Ultimate Gay and Lesbian Guide to the Disney Theme Parks. The chat will take place at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel on Sunday, October 2 at 6:30 p.m. and will benefit the Dr. Carol Channing and Harry KullijianFoundation for the Arts, whose mission it is to put the arts back into the public schools. Tickets are $20.
